Over the years, Allied Steel Buildings’ evolution has been driven by an enthusiasm for innovation, allowing us to meet diverse customer needs since day one. After successfully making the leap from steel building designer and engineer to fabricator in 2020, we continue to explore new ways to reimagine what is possible within our industry. Crediting a large part of our success to our relationships with strategic partners, we once again joined forces with longtime partner IP Grupo, to open our second manufacturing facility in 2024. This McGregor, Texas-based location marks our company’s inaugural expansion into fabrication within the United States. Inspired by the shared success of launching our first facility, we worked with IP Grupo to design our new facility with cutting-edge technology and capabilities that open the door to even more potential.

Shared Philosophies, Shared Successes

IP Grupo’s expertise in conceptualizing and outfitting steel manufacturing plants played a critical role in bringing our first facility online in 2020. Building upon the success of this venture and the resulting increase in demand for our products, we entrusted IP Grupo to bring our latest vision to life in McGregor, TX, once we recognized the urgent need to expand fabrication to a US-based location. Our aligned vision for technology and the future of facilities in the industry made IP Grupo the ideal fit for the job: optimizing the facility’s layout, advising on technology to best serve our production goals, and ultimately, with engineering a facility that optimizes performance and quality.

“IP Grupo approached the project much in the way Allied approaches projects with its clients: starting with the goal, asking, ‘What are you trying to achieve?’ and then working backwards from there.” – Michael Lassner, Allied Steel Buildings President

Leading the Industry, Tomorrow and Beyond

After defining production goals, desired efficiencies, and equipment uptimes, Allied worked with IP Grupo to create a facility that could meet today’s needs as well as those of the future. Our intention to build a facility that grows with our clients’ needs added nuanced complexities to the project, which made collaborating with IP Grupo to expand upon past successes a natural choice. IP Grupo’s expertise was once again instrumental in advising on the best available technology for Allied’s goals and in engineering the optimal layout to support material flow. The four-building facility features top-of-line manufacturing equipment and machining from Kaltenbach and Tecoi, two vendors who lent their expertise to Allied’s first facility. Its cutting-edge, one-of-a-kind robotics system from Lincoln Electric/Zeman will redefine industry quality and capabilities for years to come.

Allied’s McGregor facility is a testament to our dedication to exploring new solutions, technologies, and processes that improve our capabilities. It’s just one of the many reasons we’re trusted by clients worldwide to tackle the most intricate challenges, and build legacies for generations to come.

What makes the Allied Steel Building’s approach to problem solving unique? Clients know us for our solutions-based and limitless mindset, going the extra mile where others can’t or won’t. We’re focused on flexibility and are willing to look at problems from unorthodox angles, since outside-the-box thinking has become our calling card. At the root of this is a culture of innovation that we cultivate across our teams, with our clients, and amongst our many longtime partners and suppliers. Whether we’re investigating new ways of unlocking efficiencies within our processes, investing in new tools or technologies, or exploring new avenues for partnerships, we embrace collaboration and innovation as essential parts of our growth story. Here’s a look at how we’ve been growing recently.

Allied steel buildings CEO, Michael Lassner

Unlocking New Advantages through Automation

In 2024 we opened our second manufacturing facility— complete with a first-of-its-kind robotics and automation line. By investing in industry leading technology and customizing it to meet our unique needs, we successfully boosted assembly production efficiency by 500%, all while reducing assembly errors, minimizing energy use, and increasing safety metrics within our facility.

Achieving this required an entirely new approach to fabrication. To do so, we collaborated with Zeman and Lincoln Electric and adapted their machines to our needs. Through teamwork and collaboration from every corner of our company, we created a manufacturing operation that not only delivers superior results for our clients but also sets a new standard for safety, efficiency, and creativity in steel manufacturing.

Collaborating with Longtime Partners

Identifying better ways of doing things takes collaboration and it’s thanks to the relationships that we’ve built with our many long-term partners, that we’ve been able to co-create solutions with some of the best names in our business.

From designing our first-of-its-kind fabrication facility with our friends at IP Grupo, to overcoming supply shortages and sourcing or expediting project-critical materials, we enthusiastically explore collaborative opportunities that have fueled our shared growth with our partners over the years. We are firm believers in collaboration being essential to unlocking innovation and that extends beyond our immediate team members too.

Empowering a Culture of Bold New Ideas

Innovation starts with our people and at Allied we work hard to ensure that everyone feels empowered to bring new ideas to the table. This begins with encouraging communication across all levels of our organization and making sure every voice has opportunities to be heard. Our executives prioritize time with all of our team members and provide the training, resources, and mentorship needed to help every team member reach their career goals. This support empowers everyone at every level of our organization to lean in with new ideas and sparks innovative conversations that form the foundation of our success as a company.

Bringing it All Together

To really make the most of all of these efforts, we recently developed our own Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system— Allied 360 (A360). This custom-built system is an integration of various operations-critical tools and software, that together create an ecosystem of seamless communication across every part of the business. The end result so far: increased visibility both across our organization and for our clients, increased efficiency, and most importantly, an improved customer experience. Looking ahead, A360 will be a cornerstone of our strategy to scale efficiently, improve accountability, and deliver superior results to our clients. It’s a prime example of how Allied invests in innovation to drive progress and set new standards in the industry.

Looking ahead we’re excited about new opportunities for future collaboration and we have to say, the future’s looking bright!
